COMMITTEE MEMBER PROFILE: Louise Gibson

Louise has over 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry. At the moment she is working at the Financial Markets Authority in the project team implementing the new Financial Markets Conduct Act. Before joining FMA in April 2013, Louise worked at the Commission for Financial Literacy and Retirement Income for nearly two years. She worked with Diana Crossan and the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal Trust to establish a free financial advice service for earthquake affected Canterbury residents, as well as producing comprehensive resources to help residents work through their financial decisions. Louise also project managed the Commission’s first NZ-wide Money Week in 2012 – now an annual event.

From 2007 through to 2011, Louise worked in a contract advisory role at Inland Revenue, assisting the KiwiSaver team with a number of projects. That followed on from a short stint in 2006 at the Ministry of Economic Development assisting with the KiwiSaver legislative process, as well as providing input into the Review of Financial Products and Providers (which has eventually morphed into the Financial Markets Conduct Act).

Prior to that Louise was with the Global Retirement Trust for 13 years, having assisted with its establishment in May 1992, and managing the helm for 10 years as General Manager. Louise sat on the ASFONZ Council from 2004-2006. She has been a member of the Women in Super management committee from its inception in March 2001 and was Chair in 2003-2004.
